I understand that the Humane Society of the Willamette Valley is to have a name and logo change presumably decided by the current management and board of directors. As a past Humane Society board member for seven years and board president for two years, I wish to voice my opinion, which also reflects that of everyone I have spoken to on the subject.

The name has been in existence since November 1965 and is well-known in the community, as is the logo. In my 15 years in this area, the shelter has changed board members many times and has had three executive directors. I question the wisdom of interim people making such major changes.

More important than this, however, I would suggest that the amount of money, time and energy devoted to these changes detracts from that directed to care and concern for animals. There are so many problems still to be resolved in our local animal-welfare world, surely such money, energy, etc., could be used in a more valuable way.
