The next 'Try Sailing Day', where interested individuals or family groups are welcome to join their local sail club, will be held on Sunday, November 6. With a successful history behind it, Try Sailing Days have become an anticipated annual event throughout all sailing clubs at a national level. All interested people have to do is turn up at participating sailing clubs and they will be given the opportunity to try their hand aboard various club boats, under the instruction from skilled club staff. The day starts at 10am through to 3pm, and all interested parties are asked to come along and enjoy the experience of sailing. Almost everything that will be required by sailors will be available at each location on the day, including a lunchtime sausage sizzle from 12noon to 2pm. It is recommended that participants wear comfortable clothing on the day and white or rubber soled shoes, hat, sunscreen and bring a beach towel just in case. Try Sailing Days have been designed to encourage Australians to participate in this exciting outdoor sport. This free day has been organised by each participating club, the Sailing Industry Association/Boating Industry Association with support from the Yachting Association. The event not only allows the public to experience the joys of sailing, but, also helps people understand what local facilities are available so everyone can enjoy the water sport. Try Sailing Day will be held at Lake Macquarie Yacht Club, Belmont; Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, Wickham (adults only) and Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club, Speers Point.
